Karitsa Update - Karitsa's foster mom took her to the beach last week when the weather was so nice. Not knowing if she would like the water or not Carolina thought she would give her a new experience.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Well it seemed that Karitsa LOVES the beach and the water - even though there is still ice on it.

As you can see, Karitsa is having a blast and no doubt she went home happy and tired (-:

Remy Update - Our sweetheart Remy has now been neutered and is settling in to family life quite well.

Foster mom was so proud today as he FINALLY got on the bed instead of beside it (-:

Remy is really making a lot of progress since coming into foster care. He is a very strong boy on leash but foster mom Sharin is working on that. It won't be long and Remy will be up for adoption. We know he will make a lucky family VERY happy as will the other rottweilers we have pulled. Here is are handsome fellow Remy!

Our girl Dixie was also spayed this week and she too has made a remarkable transition into a home life.

It seems that Dixie and sister Simi are the best of friends. Hopefully Kamin won't be too dismayed.

We hope to have pictures of Dixie in the near future.

Buddy Update - We are very excited to tell you that our sweetheart Buddy has gone into foster care. We have all been anxiously awaiting Buddy's arrival into a home situation - finally! He has spent his whole life in a crate in a shed. In order to help him we had to place him in a kennel for a few weeks while we posted for a foster home. In the meantime, he was vetted including neuter and right around the same time we got the wonderful offer from Travis and Cassandra to foster Buddy.

If you recall, Travis and Cassandra fostered and then adopted our girl Keisha who coincidentally came from a very similar situation as Buddy. This family was perfect to help Buddy adjust to this world of ours, new environment and mostly a new-found freedom. No more living behind bars for you Buddy!

It will take Buddy some time to adjust. Keisha is very much wanting to play with Buddy, but we don't think he has ever had the opportunity to play. We hope he catches on soon (-:

Thank you again to Travis and Cassandra for welcoming Buddy into their home. I am sure we will be getting lots of updates so please stand by for another outstanding transformation (-:

Pixie Update - ANML-RESQ is happy to announce that our little girl Pixie has gone to her forever home.

Pixie has come a long way since coming into foster care. Pixie had trust and fear issues which no doubt was a result of being re-homed 4 times in her short 7 months of age.

With love and lots of patience, foster mom Cheryl and family have given Pixie a new leash on life. She has gained much confidence since being in foster care and her house-training has really come a long way. Pixie will continue to be a "work in progress" but we are confident her new loving family is just what Pixie needs to continue making progress.

We thought our wee girl Pixie was small but it turns out her new brother Manuel is even smaller at 4 lbs. lol Congratulations to Pixie and her loving new family.

Many thanks to Cheryl and family for allowing Pixie to thrive in your care while we waited for the perfect family to came along.

Mya Update - ANML-RESQ is thrilled to let you know that our darling girl Mya has gone into foster care. We were all on pins and needles and hoping she would thrive.

As you can see from this 3rd night update, Mya is settling in JUST fine and is learning what life is all about now that she is no longer locked in a crate inside a shed.

Bear in mind ... these dogs have not had ANY socialization...not to people, other dogs or life in general. What an amazing transition in just 3 days.

No doubt that is because she has a loving and caring foster family and a handsome boy named Kilo who is helping little Mya transition into this big world of ours.

Now for the moment we've all been axiously of Mya in a home environment, living as a dog should with family and friends. No longer behind bars! Check out that great update from Jason (and pics)! (-:

Hello Ladies, It's been 3 nights and just about 4 full days since we've had Mya. I'm happy to say that from the first update, things have progressed positively. This update is going to be a long one but a lot has happened!! All positive of course.

-She's showing more affection to both Julie and I.
-She has had a substantial amount of out of crate time with us and Kilo and is getting far more comfortable.
-She's adjusting to a long lead rather well as when we bring her out to relieve herself we now tie her to a long rope attached to our deck, stay near/walk with her but give her more space than on a leash and she's continuously relieving herself when needed.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

-we spend a lot of time out on the deck and she seems to enjoy it. Her and Kilo are starting to play a lot which is good. Kilo at times gets far too excited with her so we split them when necessary but I'm finding she intermittently shows herself to her crate when she's had enough as well.

Also, when they're playing, a lot of the time she just flops on the floor, opens up/submits and this keeps the peace lol. She usually gets playful while in that position too. Lots of noise, playful wrestling but nubs stay wagging and there seem to be no big issues.
-another indication when she's had enough is I can see it in her face, not only that but she comes to Julie or Myself and
nestles up. When this occurs we split them as well.

-she sleeps in her crate in our bedroom and she is quiet. -still eats and drinks extremely quickly but we are now feeding her outside of her crate and it seems to be going well. -we allow her to explore the house quite a bit and we are noticing when she's about to do something she shouldn't, we say no or make a noise and she's corrected quickly. I think the important thing is to really be in tune with her. Raising Kilo has helped us know when he's "about" to do something he's not supposed to and I find that has helped us with Mya as we are stopping her before she does it and she seems to get it rather well for it being new.

On a really exciting note, we set up her bed that we got from Darlene. She wasn't sure what to make of it, sniffed it, put her front paws on it and wouldn't get on. She kept coming back to it so I sat on the floor with her, pet her as she put her paws on it and assured her she was a good girl but was still not sure. After a little bit of this, she came right up to me, front paws on the bed, leaning on me and I felt she trusted me enough so I calmly lifted her on her bed. She stood there as if she just had a new set of legs, shaking but within seconds she slowly spun around and flopped on the bed and nestled up to me. From that point forward she is really quick to come to us, lie down at our feet and open up her belly to us and loves the tummy rubs. It was amazing and I find she is getting on the beds freely as she chooses. I did notice when it's on the hardwood floor it slides a bit and that makes her unsure so I put them in a carpeted room and she has no problems.

On an even more exciting note ..... Yesterday was Mya's first walk. Julie had Kilo and I had Mya. When we started the walk, she was excited, pulling like a horse and wanted to go and go now lol. After about 15 minutes of corrective tactics (two quick little tugs on the leash, nothing hurtful just enough to let her know, I'd stop walking and say no pulling) she started walking great. She would only pull when she saw something and aside from that the consistency of tactics she would quickly correct her behaviour. I was amazed at how much improvement happened on the walk. By no means is she perfect but from the first 15 minutes of the walk to the end she did show good improvement. It was going so well we didn't want to stop and ended up walking approximately 3.5km lol. We didn't see any signs of fatigue, pain or anxiousness so we continued for that distance. I chose to use the statement no pulling with the gestures as we use "slow" for kilo and I didn't want to mix him up by using the same word or phrase. We will be going for another walk today and see how she does.

Aside from that I have a few amazing pictures from the events. The one of myself walking them was so Julie could take a picture. Aside from that we both have a dog when we walk. I'm going to give her a few more days to get a little more comfortable and I'm going to slowly start working with her on commands. I'd like to give it a few more days because everything is still so new and I don't want to put an extreme amount of pressure or stress on her all at once.

I hope this update is everything you wanted to hear and if you have any questions please let me know. I've also attached a picture or two of kilo so you can see her little boyfriend haha. Enjoy your day! Jason, Julie, Kilo and Miss Mya

HUGE thanks to Jason, Julie and Kilo for welcoming Mya into your hearts and home.

Meet Jax - Introducing our newest rescue ... 2 year old Jax.

He arrived into foster care on Saturday and everyone on transport have fallen in love with Jax. Not only is he so darn cute, but he is such a happy, loving boy.

Jax went for a spa day on Sunday - foster mom Allie gave him a good scrub down and now he smells as fresh as a daisy.

We are just getting to know Jax, but he seems to be the "full package". Good with dogs and loves everyone he has met. We have a feeling it won't be long before Jax finds an amazing forever home.

Karitsa and Timber - Carolina brought Karitsa and Timber to the All About Pets Show (I know it's called something else now, but you know what I'm talking about) yesterday. And Karitsa was "model" for a Grooming With Finesse and was a star.

Our beautiful girl Karitsa was a super-star yesterday as well. The ladies at Grooming with Finesse were really good with Karitsa and she was wonderful during the grooming. All kinds of people mulling around, watching her get groomed and she was stellar throughout it all.

Karitsa was SO good that she won the "most popular" award for the most people interested in watching her get groomed ... how cool is that?

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Carolina also brought her main man Timber with her so they could walk around and check out the booths. On a whim, Carolina decided to put Timber through the Canine Good Citizen (or Canine Good Neighbour CGN) testing. Timber had no practice or anything and he ACED it! Our boy Timber is now certified - CONGRATULATIONS my boy!

Timber was also an AMAZING ambassador for ANML-RESQ. He was such a good boy, meeting so many people and their dogs. People even stopped and asked to have their pictures taken with Timber (-:

We often hear from people that "rescue dogs are broken". Timber is a fine example to show this is definitely NOT the case. Here is a boy that was dumped on a country road like yesterdays garbage and look at him now. I am SO proud of you Timber! GOOD DOG!

So, once again ... the myth of "rescued dogs being broken" is complete rubbish, as we all know. Karitsa and Timber are prime examples that Rescued Dogs make the BEST pets!

Thank You Pet Valu Vaughan - WOW! ANML-RESQ Network of Ontario would like to send a HUGE thank you to our friends at Pet Valu Vaughan.

We were contacted by a previous adoptor who adopted our handsome boy Billy. Megan works at Pet Valu and when Megan contacted us about donating we were honoured to be considered for such a generous donation which we graciously accepted.

Thank you to our volunteer Christine for picking up Pet Valu's donation. We were truly not expecting such a big load of wonderful items such as dog food, canned food, dog treats, collars, small dog coats, cookies and 2 sets of stainless steel raised dog food bowls to name just a few of the items.

MANY thanks to the wonderful people at Pet Valu Vaughan to their most generous donation. Thanks to Pet Valu's wonderful employees and special thanks to Megan and Ruth for their kind assistance.

Please be sure to stop Pet Valu in Vaughan the next time you are in the area and support those that support rescued animals in need.

Rotti Frenzy - URGENT! Foster or Forever for 3 sweet dogs...

Buddy is a 4 year old, beautiful single breed rottweiler. Buddy has lived his whole life in a kennel environment. We were able to pull 5 rottweilers from this environment and 3 have already found foster. We are looking for an experienced large breed foster/forever home that will help introduce Buddy to new life experiences.

He will require positive reinforcement to make the complete transition into the big outside world. Buddy is good with other dogs of like size but no cats please.

Good with other dogs but not fans of cats, so a foster home without cats and small children would be ideal

Both Buddy (and Mya) have been for a spa day and they were so good ... they smell great now. Buddy is also vaccinated, neutered and microchipped and ready to find a loving foster or forever home where he can begin his new life. ANML-RESQ has been very busy last week pulling several rottweilers from a kennel situation.

These beautiful black and tans will need a little patience as they discover this BIG world of ours. They have not been socialized so are strong on leash. They haven't seen the inside of a house so ALL things are new to them.

The ones in foster homes, Gentle Ben, Dixie are slowly de-stressing and they seem to have a LOT of exploring to do ... lots of sniffing. They are learning the ropes as well when it comes to potty-training.

We are also THRILLED to introduce our newest rescues, 6 year old Ben, Remy and 2 year old Dixie. All are absolutely gorgeous and all have wonderful dispositions.

Many thanks for our wonderful foster families who opened their hearts and home immediately for these wonderful dogs. Stay tuned for lots more updates about our newest furkids.

Kane Update - Kane's foster mom has been anxiously awaiting an update about her foster boy Kane who just went home on the weekend. She was thrilled to get this update from Kane's new dad, Simon. It sounds like Kane is settling in and adjusting to his new environment. Here are some pictures and a little update from Kane's dad.

Hello sharin, Sorry I haven't emailed sooner. Attached are some pics from my phone. Kanes been great. Was a bit anxious at first but has settled nicely. He visits with my mom and her dog daily and has met many other dogs and people on our many walks.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

He's been great with them all and also with adapting to my house and the neighbourhood. I'm trying to get into an obedience class early may that I know he'll enjoy. More pics to come soon. Hope all is well with you. ~Simon

I know how much Sharin misses her boy but knowing he has an amazing life to look forward to, it helps ease the worry. Most of us fosters become very attached to our charges and it is always a bitter-sweet moment when you hand your foster over to another family. Updates make our day! (-:
