Charlie - is a unique looking dog who simply loves life!!!  Charlie is a young bull terrier mix with lots of energy and lots of love to give. Charlie is a very smart fellow who loves his ball, but most of all, Charlie LOVES to be with people.

Charlie is very good with all people he meets, including young children, however, through sheer excitement, he could knock a younger child over. We are looking for a home that can give Charlie the big fenced in yard he yearns for so he can frolic and burn off some of his energy.

Tanner -  is 3 1/2 years old and a very good boy.  He is housetrained and is good with all people, big and small.  His owner had to go away for a few weeks and left him with grandma and grandpa.  They were always home and never left me alone.  He really got to like having my people with him all day long, so when the owner picked him up he began misbehaving when they had to go to work - he would bark and cry hoping that they will return soon.

Tanner would really love a home where someone could be with him for most of the time.  He would love being with people and as long as he has people, he would be the best behaved doggy you could ever meet (-:

Marlene - is in URGENT need of a foster home for this approximately 2 year old female rottweiler. She was found straying and has not been claimed. The shelter is seeking rescue for this girl, they will not adopt out Rottweilers, so time is VERY critical. She does not seem to display any aggression towards other dogs when she sees them, but she has not been put together with other dogs at the shelter.

She is a sweet girl, the staff really love her. She is starting to stress at the shelter and they would like to see her find rescue ASAP. If you know of anyone that could foster this beauty,

Please contact us ASAP if you can help Charlie, Tanner or Marlene at or fill out the application form on the left.

Paws for Santa
We have another exciting fundraiser happening this weekend, thanks to Stacey's Pet Depot and Fromm Food.

November 28th at Stacey's Pet Depot in Cornwall, you can bring your pet/human in for pictures with Santa - woohoo!! Please be sure to call ahead for an appointment as spots are being booked quickly.

This just in! Stacy's Pet Depot will be donating 5% of all sales on Sunday to ANML-RESQ Network of Ontario!

ANML-RESQ is excited to be having another fundraiser!

Stacy's Pet Depot, Cornwall, in conjunction with FROMM Family Foods is hosting ANML-RESQ this Sunday for pet photos with Santa.

Stacy's Pet Depot has been an invaluable supporter of ANML-RESQ and we encourage everyone to visit the store and support a local business.

 IMG00188-20101022-1951.jpg (53128 bytes)

A photo of your pet(s) with Santa will be offered at a cost of $15.00 with a portion of this donated to ANML-RESQ Network of Ontario!

FROMM will be behind the camera doing their best to make your furkids smile and they will be providing them with treats! In addition, for each bag of FROMM food sold on Sunday, FROMM will donate a 5lb bag of food to feed the rescue animals in need. FROMM Family Foods is a high quality gourmet pet food.  They pride themselves on using the highest quality ingredients that offer the very best in nutrition for your beloved pet.

ANML-RESQ volunteers will be on-site with information pamphlets and to answer any questions you may have regarding  rescue and its rewards. After all, the best things in life are rescued!

We would like to thank Stacey's Pet Depot and Fromm Dog Food for making this event possible. Also, HUGE thanks to Allie and Walter for helping with the event. I am sure they will have a BLAST seeing all the cute pets coming in for pictures with Santa.

If you are in the Cornwall area, please drop by and say "Hi" to everyone on Sunday. Be sure to drive carefully ... looks like winter has arrived!!! Have a great weekend everyone!

URGENT - Foster Needed
URGENT!!! We are looking for a foster home for Tanner. Tanner is a 3 1/2 year old Beagle/Sheltie mix who is cute as a button. Tanner is a lovely boy, crate-trained, housetrained. He is GREAT with all people, including children.

Sadly, Tanner had the taste of having someone home with him all day for several weeks and when he returned home, he couldn't bear when his owner left for work. He began barking and stressing until his owner returned home. Sadly, because his owner lives in a condominium, he has had a few complaints about Tanner.

 blog112510.jpg (155277 bytes)

We would love to help Tanner find a loving home where his people can be home with him for most of the day. We don't want to see Tanner go to a shelter as that would prove devastating for him.

If you think you could foster Tanner or would like to add a new companion to your family, please send us an email at

12 Dogs of Christmas
Finally, I am back home and able to update everyone about our 12 Dogs of Christmas Fundraiser. What a wonderful day we had!!!

HUGE thanks to Mondello Ristorante for welcoming ANML-RESQ, providing a beautiful venue for our event. The food was delicious, the ambiance was wonderful.

It was exciting to meet and finally put a face to the people we have talk with, either by phone or email - adoptive families, loyal supporters of ANML-RESQ, our hard-working volunteers and all the friends we made at Mondello Ristorante.

The fundraiser was a HUGE success. ANML-RESQ would like to send special thanks to Carolina and Mike for their tireless work, putting together this fundraiser and others to help ANML-RESQ raise much needed funds to carry us through the winter months.

We would also like to send thanks to the generous people and companies that donated items for our auction and raffle. Many people drove quite a distance to spend the afternoon with us, and we would like to thank EVERYONE for making this such a special day for us.

Jo Singer revisits the articles that surfaced in 2005 about dogs being used as shark bait. I must point out, that most people do not believe that this is going on and will comfort themselves with this notion to sooth their thoughts. Even has a flip flop attitude as to whether this is real or not. [Everyone trusts as the authority where questions are concerned!]

Anyone who has ever travelled to a 'third-world' country will attest to the poverty and lost love for poor people as well as the animals. Which leads to a problem of over-population, not only for the people, but for animals. Ergo with too many dogs and cats, who will worry about using them for bait when they are all roaming the streets in such numbers. We are structured here in Canada and the US - but we are also killing dogs and cats in great numbers.

In Reunion Island a French controlled territory off the coast of Southern Africa, located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. Fishermen were caught using dogs and cats for bait and it has been documented and confirmed. This has been confirmed by Sea Shepherd as well. The Sea Shepherd has offered rewards leading to conviction of the use of dogs and cats as bait...»

Ms. Reha Hutin sent a film crew to Reunion to verify the facts that live animals were being used as bait to hunt sharks and if true to expose the practice on the animal rights' group weekly television show.

'Upon release of the story, the Brigette Bardot Foundation, a Paris-based animal welfare group's spokesperson, Stephanie Roche confirmed that live animals were being used as bait on Reunion.

Shortly after this announcement, the a written statement was issued by the French Embassy in Washington D.C. condemning the use of dogs as shark bait, stressing that these acts are illegal and are not tolerated in the French territory.'

As we sit here watching our dog or cat lay in the sunshine by the door or window, please remember the lost souls who do not have the pleasure of that love and are lost. Don't forget to hug your fur-babies today. ~ Elaine Watson

Eau d’toilet
Does your dog drink out of the toilet? Mine did! But, now I keep the lid down. Ever get those nice wet kisses from your four-legged friend and not know why all the drool??? Well, I want to know why all the drool and so does Jake over at

As dogs age, it is harder for them to reach the floor to eat or drink. Jake has found a wonderful water/bowl set that will look great in the kitchen and won't leave your face with eau d'toilet!

Check out Jake's blog and see his secret for making his family happy!

Pumpkin and Jack Update
We received some very cute pictures from Carolina, foster mom, of Jack and Pumpkin. As you can see, they are having a blast, whooping it up with the big guys!!

It seems that Jack's ears are starting to stand up. OMG ... how cute will he be when he grows up. It also appears like Roxy has an "ear-do" going on as well (-:

All of the puppies are doing well and adjusting nicely to family life. All are very fortunate to have an older canine sibling to teach them the ropes.

Mama Shiloh is also doing very well. She went to get micro chipped and another vet check-up. She is in good health and will be ready for her spay next Thursday. We are sure that mama Shiloh and her adorable puppies will find their forever homes soon.

Smooch Update
We received some nice pictures again from our Splash and Smooch's mom. As you can see, both are doing very well with their family. BTW ... the BIGGEST doggy of the bunch, is our puppy Smooch LOL.

Still growing like a weed. At 8 months old, he towers over his big brother Beau and he is still growing. Isn't he the most handsome puppy you have seen? I love his smooshable cheeks (-:

Splash (aka Haille) is the only girl in the pack, but in true female fashion ... she keeps the boys in line.

Thanks for the pictures and updates Carla! You have a beautiful family of four-legged friends (-:

I also wanted to share this well written, thought provoking article from the Examiner.

Protest March Friday
The protest, this past Friday, went off without a hitch. Four protests were held this past weekend in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Calgary. Animal lovers from across Canada came together to protest the cruel injustice brought down against Phillip Huggins and his dog Ginger.

We shared the ruling brought down by the courts last week and Ginger's destruction order was upheld. Once again, she is slated to be put to sleep for defending herself and owner against an attack by an off-leash dog. Ginger was charged while the owner of the loose dog was not. The City of Calgary has offered Ginger safe haven in their Province ... whether the courts will allow this to happen, we do not know.

The protest against Ginger's destruction was well attended by people in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Calgary. This article is from the Toronto Sun about the day of protest.

We can only hope and pray now that there will be a reprieve for Ginger ... that she will be allowed to leave the Province of Ontario. We pray she will be granted a "stay of execution" and allowed to relocate to another province. Please send your thoughts and prayers Gingers' way.

Remembrance Day
We would like to take this day to remember those that have fought for our rights and freedom, past and present.  Our brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom. They died, fighting for Canada - our country.

Let us not forget, for one minute, the sacrifice they have given for our freedom. So too, the dogs , pigeons, and horses that were so valuable as they too gave their lives for us. For more information on how man's best friend has helped us through these horrible wars, check this link...»

Diego Update
We got another great update AND pictures from Diego's mom!! It sounds like this young fellow is beginning to settle nicely. Wow, Diego is one VERY handsome fellow, don't you agree?

HI There, Attached are a few pictures of Diego.

He now goes up and down our basement stairs without even blinking!!!

We have been to the dog park but Diego was intimidated by a hound dog that would not leave him alone so our visit was short, but we will be going again.

All is well. Talk to you soon. Dawn

Ginger Needs Our Help
As you may already be aware, Ginger's court date has come and sadly, it was NOT the outcome we were hoping for. I cannot believe that this Province has stooped so low, to rip a beloved member of a family from their loving home ... to condemn a dog to death for only doing what comes naturally ... protecting themselves and their beloved owner. Ginger did not leave the house that day with the intent to harm anyone ... rather she and her grandma went for their daily walk, minding their business when THEY were attacked.

I have taken the liberty of adding some links from our friends at Brindlestick. Lori has done a wonderful job of summing up Ginger's story from the beginning ... The battle to Save Ginger has been on-going since 2006 ... here is the final ruling in last weeks court case.

Lori has written a beautiful Tribute to Ginger, along with the entire story from the beginning in this tribute to a kind, gentle and loving dog named Ginger.

I urge you to make it down or take your lunch off  to attend the rally at  Queens Park this Friday November 12 for 2 PM  to show your support for Ginger and her beloved owner. We MUST show the Liberals we will not sit back and allow them to continue the mass slaughter of innocent animals. We WILL fight until this ridiculous law is over-turned. Please come and show your support!!!

Meet Bailey
This very pretty girl is named Bailey. Sadly, Bailey was found, tied to a fence and left to fend for herself. She was picked up by animal control and now she is looking for a new forever home.

Bailey is 6 years old, house-trained, crate-trained. She is great with kids and she gets along well with other dogs.

Bailey has a mild case of hip dysplasia, however, you would never know it. She is quiet in the house, yet definitely has the energy of a Border Collie when outdoors.

If you think that Bailey is the girl for you or if you think you could foster Bailey for us, please contact us at

The Rescue Kit
To end off our week, I wanted to share a beautifully written piece ... obviously written by someone that knows what rescue is all about. Here is an overview of rescue, in a "nutshell"!

Your rescue "kit" should include:

  • A heart of gold to accept those creatures that don't measure up as "perfect" in the eyes of the rest of the world.

  • The people skills of a salesperson. . . to convince those that are looking for perfection that they will find it in a rescue dog if they are willing to look a little deeper.

  • A heart of steel to be able to say no when there just isn't any more room for just one more dog.

  • The knowledge that you can't save them all.

  • The ability to smile and speak rationally when the 10th person for the day says "I don't want this stupid dog anymore. . . take him or I am gonna shoot him."

  • Some medical knowledge. . . or your rescue vet bill will be bigger than the national debt.

  • The fine art of fund raising. . . so your vet bill can be reduced to just under the size of the national debt.

  • Patience for: breeders who don't care, won't help, turn their backs and say it's not their problem.

  • Patience for: dogs that were incorrectly placed and come to rescue with so much excess baggage that you think they will never be adoptable.

  • Patience for: owners who want a quick fix.

  • Patience for: a world that no longer looks at life as a gift and the lives that we create as breeders as nothing short of miracles.

  • A sense of humor. . . because sometimes a smile on your face is the only way to hide the agony and turmoil in your heart.

  • A husband with housekeeping skills that are so outstanding that they could be highlighted in Good Housekeeping Magazine. . . so you can devote your time to all the rescues and be secure in the knowledge that the local Board of Health will not condemn your house.

  • Personal dogs that will tolerate the never ending stream of four legged orphans, waifs and street urchins that will start arriving the moment you say. . . "I have room."

  • Children that like being the "token" child to socialize every dog that comes thru the door. . . being able to say "good with kids" is a real selling point.

  • Magician skills so you can change anything that comes thru the door, from black tri male to long tail and brown eyes, into blue merle female, good with kids, housebroke, crate trained and obedience trained.

  • The ability to face the paperwork head-on and deal with it. . . or someone you can send it to and say. . . "Here, do something with this mess!"

  • Grooming skills for those ugly ducklings waiting for their chance to be a swan ... with a little help from you.

I could go on but you probably get the picture ...  None of us have all of these things but we all know that the business of rescue is a team effort. Each of us contribute what we can as a team member. Some of us cannot handle the dogs [or cats or birds or horses or rabbits or ... ], but ... there are other things that must be done.

Some only want to work with the dogs [themselves, or the cats or ... ] so ... leave the paperwork to those that like it. No matter what your situation is ... it is your willingness to help that is important.

~ Author Unknown ~

And THIS is the reward of rescue ... this picture surely sums it all up in a "kodak" moment.

Here is our recently rescued girl Shiloh ... Talk about LOVE!!! (-:

Meet Shiloh
We are getting lots of great updates from our foster home about Shiloh and her beautiful puppies.

Shiloh arrived into her foster home last Saturday and although the first day or two were a bit stressful for her, meeting so many new people, having a sleepover on Friday night and a long journey to her foster home. However, since having a few days to settle in and a little time to get into the rhythm of her new household, she is settling down nicely.

Shiloh was a little unsure at first of the resident dogs (she preferred human attention), but again, with time, she has figured out that Brie and Little Man will do her no harm and is now quite comfortable sharing their home with them and their people.

We have discovered that Shiloh does not like to be confined (crated). Rather than stress her more, foster mom decided to give her a chance at free-roam while they are at work and thankfully Shiloh is VERY good when left with full run of the house. She is not destructive and patiently waits for her people to arrive home. Shiloh is particularly excited when the boyz arrive home from school. She LOVES her foster brothers, Alex and Noah. It seems she has really attached herself to young Alex and he lovingly refers to her as his "shadow".

Shiloh has a wonderful, sweet temperament. She is a very trusting and loving girl. Shiloh is great with all people and dogs she has met. She is housetrained and good in the house when left alone. She is a very special girl to us and we will be looking for a VERY special forever home for this very deserving girl.

Diego Update
Foster mom received a great update from Diego's new mom.  It sounds like he is starting to settle in with his new family.

We really look forward to pictures. This young fellow will be growing like a weed and we can't wait to see how he grows and matures.  He is such a stunning and unique looking puppy.  We can't wait to see what he looks like all grown up (-:

Here is new moms update

Diego is settling in very well. He does not like Halloween though and found the kids coming to the door disturbing, but now that that is over I am sure he will continnue to settle.

He still will not go down into the basement. Do you know if his original owners had a basement? was he allowed there or perhaps kept down there? Just wondering. We are working on encourging him to come down on his own and I am sure over time he will.

Diego met his "grandparents" this past weekend and got along famously with them. He now hops up into the truck and settles into his spot with no problems.

His appetite is a bit off but he has had a big change so I am sure that it will pick up.

Diego is loving playing ball in the backyard and even brings the ball back after he has had a speed run around, lol

He has taken to sleeping in our room, beside Tim or I and sleeps well the whole night through.

We are working on his commands for sitting, stay, no jumps, etc. and I beleive are making great progress, but as you know he can be stubborn lol.

Loves going for walks, he is still not to sure about night though and gets scarred quite easily. When he is scared he barks at what ever has startled him, be it the wind or just a dark part of the street.

He is great and we are very pleased he is part of our family.

I will get some pictures together and send them soon.

Take care and talk to you soon.

Carter Update
We had Happy Halloween wishes from our handsome boy Carter and his bewitching sister Baby. Thanks Carter and Baby!!! We hope you both had a GREAT Halloween!!
I heard that both Carter and Baby each received a piece of that "tempting" steak. MUCH better for them than candies (-:
From Carter's mom Lori:

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Love from Carter and Baby

Hurry up Dad I want that piece of steak

We coaxed Carter with a piece of Dad's steak

and Baby's thoughts are I am too tired for this crap - Trick or treat.

Pup Update
Wow!!! What an exciting weekend it was. We had volunteers traveling in every direction getting mama Shiloh and her puppies situated into foster homes.

Mama Shiloh met a lot of our volunteers this weekend and did a bit of traveling, but she landed safely in her foster home and is settling in and getting to know her foster family. I heard she has really bonded with her foster brother Alexander. Shiloh is a very good natured girl, very loving and very happy to meet new people. When she has met you, she shows her approval by leaning on your leg ... or into your lap. She is a very affectionate, gentle and trusting girl. She has the most beautiful eyes ... EVERYONE that has met her has fallen in love with her sweet disposition.

Foster family for three of our little girls is abuzz with excitement as well. The puppies arrived home and we quickly scooped up by their foster sister, 13 year old Kaitlyn who took over nurturing and caring for them.

The puppies are absolutely adorable as you can see. They have been sleeping through the night and staying clean in their crates, which has been an unexpected surprise (-:

Thanks to Kaitlyn, Megan and Ethan these puppies are getting a LOT of attention and tons of hugs and kisses.

Even their big brother Buddy is getting in on the action and showing some of his "herding" techniques to his new-found wards.

Thanks again to Carolina, Christine and Allie for opening your hearts and homes to this beautiful mama and her puppies.
They will make some special families VERY happy.
