Magoo Update: We received some beautiful pictures of our happy boy Magoo ... obviously being loved and cherished by everyone in his family - including Tut the cat.

It seems Tut and Magoo are the best of friends. Magoo's mom fosters cats so he will have lots of new feline friends to meet.

We hope for lots more pictures and updates. Magoo looks GREAT! Thank you for sharing Susan.

More...: We received some pictures of our little rottweilers without bars in front of their sweet faces. Our wee boy Casey went to his foster home yesterday evening and foster mom Lorie is already smitten.

Since he had been through so much his first day (going to the vet) and then going home with Lorie, Casey was a bit too tired to do a lot of exploring. However when morning came he went out into the backyard and had his very first zoom and full out run. I wish I could have been there to see that moment. Strangely, while the pups hated their crates in the beginning - they seem to seek solace in their crates when they get tired or frightened.

Our other male puppy, who is sadly being medicated for pneumonia went to his foster home this evening. Again, he will probably have a good rest, the resident dogs and cats will no doubt check him out while he is chilling in his crate. I am sure tomorrow he will get a nice romp in the yard and hopefully will do a little exploring in his new environment.

Our little girl will be going into her foster home next week but I have a sneaking suspicion she will be hanging out with Lance and Darlene until then (-:

We don't have pictures yet of Casey or Dexter (who went to his foster home on Wednesday evening), but we will be sure to share them when we receive - in the meantime ... check out little Lucy and her brother!! Are they not the cutest?

I have no doubt we will all be taking it easy this weekend, knowing these precious dogs are finally in our care. Have a great weekend everyone!

Here They Are...: All of us here at ANML-RESQ are super excited this week. We have FINALLY been able to get our 5 adorable rottweilers picked up and transported to safety. We could not have done with without the help of some very special angels.

blog092514c.jpg (67554 bytes)

Momma Keisha

We must begin our thanks to the kind samaritan who turned his life upside down to help these beautiful rotties. An unexpected litter made it so much harder for the kind samaritan who endured many hardships to keep these dogs safe and cared for. When an unexpected eviction notice came for the mom and pups, the samaritan was heartbroken and very worried.

With the help of friends, it came to pass that ANML-RESQ was contacted for help. 5 rottweilers, 4 of which were already young adults and their mom. WOW! That is a tall order to fill. Add to that, they were hundreds of kilometers away from us.

blog092514a.jpg (67635 bytes)

In step two rescue angels - Sharin and her son Keanan who offered to make the 12 hr. round trip to bring these beautiful dogs to safety. We knew they were under-socialized, we knew they had NEVER left their small enclosure but we really had no idea what to expect. What we did know was that we were going to rescue these dogs, no matter what it took. We would deal with whatever we needed to once we had them in our care.

While Sharin and Keanan prepared for the days transport, her husband was busy making make-shift martingale collars as we also knew they had never had a collar on or a leash. We were expecting the worst, hoping for the best and if we were lucky, we would be somewhere in between!

blog092514b.jpg (69534 bytes)

Well, let me tell you, it was an ordeal to get them all loaded safely into the cargo van and into crates. They sure did not want any part of those crates. But once they were in and the vehicle started to move, they quieted right down and the trip was pretty uneventful, other than the smell! The next leg of transport was another lengthy leg, but the mom and puppies arrived safely at their destinations.

blog092514.jpg (133738 bytes)

What we did not expect was that these beautiful black and tans are mini-pocket rotts! OMG - they are SO cute! Everyone that has met them have fallen head over heels with these mini rottweilers. Another surprise we got ... we were fully expecting to pick up 4 male pups, but lo and behold ... one is a female! (-: That kind of put a wrench in our plans for a foster home as foster was able to accommodate a male so we are on the hunt for a foster home for this tiny female (who is in heat, BTW).

Mom and all 4 pups have been to the vets today and we are quite happy that for the most part, all puppies are very healthy. Sadly, one of the puppies has pneumonia, but thankfully we have caught it quickly and he is on antibiotics and will soon recover as we have a very special foster home for him - THANKS BETH! Many thanks again to our transporters extra-ordinaire ... Sharin, Keanan and Bob. THANK YOU to our foster homes, Lorie, Beth, Eric and Bob. Thank you to all who made this miracle possible.

We are hoping for some better pictures when our black and tans settle into foster homes, but here are some pictures of our beautiful babies on their transport ride to FREEDOM and a new life!

Roti Rescue Update: I have an update for you and I know you will all be thrilled to hear that the "almost impossible" is being made possible by a whole lot of hard working, dedicated, dog-loving people.

We will be picking up mama and her 4 boys TOMORROW! Yup, you heard right - 5 black and tan passengers, all heading from Thessalon, ON to Barrie for transfer to another vehicle and off to more southerly Ontario destinations (except one pup who will be going into foster near Barrie stop-off. We could not make this happen without some very special transporters whom we are very, very grateful to. Our volunteer/foster mom, Sharin and her son Keanan have graciously offered to drive all the way to Thessalon so that ALL of the dogs could be picked up.

We were concerned that if mom and a couple of siblings were taken out, the ones left behind would surely break out of their enclosure (which they have already been doing) to seek out their mom and siblings. So thanks to Sharin and Keanan who have a large enough vehicle to transport all 5 have offered to make the drive up tomorrow, arriving around noon - getting all the doggies rounded up and situated in their vehicle and heading straight back, arriving in Barrie-ish area around 7pm. From there, the doggies will have a stretch, one foster family will be at Sharin's upon her arrival back to pick up his rottie pup. Thank you Eric!

Our very good friend Bob, who manages a kennel, has fostered MANY of our urgent dogs has offered to make the trip to Barrie to pick up the remaining dogs (mom and 3 pups) and head back south with them. All the dogs have vet appointments for Thursday and will have a thorough check up, vaccinations, de-wormer, etc. From there, the dogs will be dispersed into their foster homes. Huge thanks to Beth, Lorie and Jan for offering a foster spot for 1 each of the pups and again Bob for helping with mama at his residence until more permanent foster home can be found.

We have an amazing team of people that have made the "impossible" ... POSSIBLE! Thank you to each and every one that have cross-posted, networked and spread the word for these innocent dogs who ended up in a very dire situation and needed help quickly.

We would also like to thank the people that contacted us for help as their options were pretty grim. We are EXCITED and cannot wait to get pictures and updates from all of our wonderful foster families.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make this miracle happen for 5 beautiful dogs whom we are very excited to meet!

Hi Renee: Read your blog first thing this a.m. and such wonderful news about the Rotties all being picked up together. You are quite right, I'm sure it would have been devastating for the dogs left behind if they were not all going together. You always find such wonderful people when you need them.

Good that the other 3 dogs have been adopted. I think it looks like Bob and his family took Small Fry. That day in Milton his wife was quite taken with his pictures.
Take care.

Adoption Blisssss: ANML-RESQ has had a very busy weekend! We have 3 of our very lucky rescues who have gone to their forever homes this weekend.

Our cutie-pie Magoo went home on Saturday and we cannot wait for pictures and updates from Magoo's new family. Here are some pictures of our lucky boy, getting ready for a road-trip with his new family to Magoo's new home.

Many thanks to Jen, Josh, Jimmy and Petey for welcoming Magoo into their hearts and home. It has taken some time to figure out Magoo's skin issues, but after an allergy test, we have found what he cannot eat and he is doing really well - he looks GREAT!! He had a wonderful foster family that helped him through his skin/allergy issues while he waited for his forever family. Thank you Petey for being such a good fur-brother to Magoo. No doubt you will both miss each other.

Our boy Scout has also found his forever home ... in fact, he won't be leaving his foster home - they are smitten with him. We are happy for Scout as well as he has fit in so nicely with his family, he loves having lots of doggy friends and has made himself right at home. Congratulations, Scout, Jan and Jack!

Our wee fellow, Small Fry has also gone to his forever home. We are thrilled for this little guy because we will get lots of updates from his new family who are very good friends of ANML-RESQ.

Timber Update: We were reminded last week of a very special day we almost missed! It was Timber's Gotcha Day! Here is a little note from Timber's proud mom, Carolina.

I can't believe it's been 4 years since a scared but sweet puppy came into my life. Every year I say the same about Timber, and this year is no exception. Timber is my blessing and will continue to hold on tight to my heart.

Weekend Update: As promised - here are some pictures of our 5th Annual Reunion and fundraising event at Crawford's Garden Centre in Milton.

We cannot thank Sarah and all the good people at Crawford's enough for inviting ANML-RESQ Network of Ontario to their beautiful venue for our 5th Annual Reunion.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

We were thrilled to see so many people and their dogs join us in this reunion and celebration of our happily adopted. It is an opportunity for us to meet old and new friends and see our adopted, so many years later - happy, healthy and in loving family homes. It was an opportunity for us to showcase our adoptables. Our recently adopted boys, Apollo and Zeus were there to greet everyone. My foster girl Sophie and dad Russ came for a visit and met with an adoptor of Sophie's sibling, Kobe. Sadly, Kobe has crossed over so it was very heartwarming for Anne and Wayne to meet Sophie.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

And, happily adopted from about 6 years ago is our handsome boy Flex who we were thrilled to see again after so many years. Of course Anne and Wayne brought their big boy Gus who is looking so good. We also had a visit from our boy Dexter who is such a handsome and well behaved boy. And we can't forget our cutie-pie Ozzie! We were so thrilled to see Ozzie again as well as his mom and dad and their new baby. What a beautiful family. There were so many other doggies as well that came to enjoy the day at the Centre. So many beautiful things to see at this time of year and Crawford' has such a stunning array of flowers and accessories. It is a wonderland for the gardener in your life.

This whole day would not have been possible, if not for our good friend and volunteer, Debbie who celebrated her birthday on September 14th and wanted to celebrate her birthday by arranging this whole fundraiser for us.

Thank you so much Debbie for all that you and Derek do for our rescues. We are very fortunate to have so many generous and kind people wanting to do all they can for the animals.

This fundraiser was a HUGE success and we thank all of our volunteers who worked so hard baking up a storm for our bake sale, our volunteers who helped set up and make this such a successful day ... all the people that came to support our rescued and future rescues. With the monies raised from this reunion, we will be able to help many more dogs in need. Thank you to all!

Dakota Update: We are elated to announce that our sweetheart Dakota has found her forever home!!! Her new mom Donna and Dakota have spent the weekend bonding and BOY, have they bonded.

Dakota waited for a very long time, but as we have always said - those that wait the longest, wait for the best. Dakota is Donna's "one and only". She does not have to share Donna with anyone and Dakota LOVES all the attention that is being bestowed upon her.

Here is a picture of Dakota and her forever mom, Donna. Congratulations Dakota and Donna from all your friends here at ANML-RESQ.

I also wanted to let you know that our fundraiser was a HUGE success! I will have more about our fundraiser with LOTS of pictures in the next few days.

Thank you to everyone who made this wonderful day possible. Happy Birthday Debbie!!! Thank you for making this day possible for ANML-RESQ Network of Ontario!

URGENT: We have been asked to help 5 beautiful Rottweilers. One of the Rottweilers is a female, approximately 3 years old, a mother with her puppies. There are four 10 month old male Rottweiler puppies (from a litter of 7). We have been fortunate to find foster homes for 3 of the male puppies but are still looking for a foster home for mom and a 10 month old, male, Rottweiler puppy.

The puppies have lived in this enclosure their whole lives and have not been socialized with too many people other than a kind gentleman who has been caring for and feeding them. This is an urgent situation. Please consider helping one of these beautiful rottweilers.

If you know of any large breed experienced homes, interested in helping the mom or her 10 month old puppy, please contact us ASAP or fill out the adoption/foster application on the left.

Many thanks to the wonderful people that have offered help for 3 of the puppies - 2 more to go, please network for these dogs!

Baloo Update: I was pleasantly surprised to get an email from a previous adoptor of one of my foster Rotts, Sophie. She was just a wee babe when she came into our home and being such a cute little puppy, it didn't take long before she was adopted in December of 2003 ... a wonderful gentleman and a Rottie boy named Brodie adopted her and she has been living a wonderful and happy life with them.

Then, along came ANML-RESQ's Baloo ... a dog who found himself in a shelter and in urgent need of a foster home and sadly, Sophie's brother Brodie had passed away and she was missing a friend. Thankfully, Russ opened his heart and home to Baloo, who was quite a handful as Russ and Sophie would tell you. And I hear he is still a boob, but a loveable one.

I was thrilled to get pictures of both. Baloo was just a puppy when he went to be fostered by Russ and for whatever reason, a suitable home was not found before Russ totally fell in love with the boisterous bad boy.

It is great to see my little Sophie aging so gracefully. I love to see that smile which has never changed since a puppy.

And on another happy note - our rescue friends in the east have let us know that Tyson, the prohibited type dog we sent to the East coast through a network of friends has found his forever home!

Look how happy he looks and the family too! Congratulations Tyson and family!

Scout Update: Well, our handsome boy Scout arrived at his foster home on Sunday and has settled in very nicely. He already knows how to use the resident doggy door and has made several doggy friends as well. Foster mom says he is a very laid back and social boy, so we have no doubt he will find his forever family in fairly short order.

Here is one picture of Scout during his "limo ride" home with foster mom. I can guarantee you these two sure got some looks as they drove by. lol Many thanks to Jan and family for welcoming Scout into their hearts and home.

I also wanted to update you on Merlin. Sadly, I can camera ready to snap shots of his freedom flight, but gosh darn ... I had no idea how fast these falcons fly! We arrived to the area we found him and set the box out in an area clear of any present danger (in case he had any problems taking flight). Camera in hand, my husband opened the lid to the box Merlin was in and "poof" ... he was gone! I could not even capture one single shot as he was far out of range within seconds. However we had the pleasure of watching him speed through the air, circle around and then flew to a treetop, quite a distance away. It was such a wonderful experience watching Merlin take flight as we know he will now be safe. I hope he learned his lesson and stays away from roads and cars.

Many thanks again to Wild at Heart Refuge for taking such good care of this magnificent bird. Bon Voyage Merlin!! Stay safe!

Crawford Fundraiser: Just a reminder to everyone that this coming weekend, Sunday the 14th, is the big day at Crawford's Garden Centre! I hope to see you all there as a fun-filled day has been planned. Lots of good eats, auction items, good friends and hopefully lots of our happily adopted dogs will come as well. I really look forward to the day!

I also wanted to let you know that we have found a wonderful foster home for Scout, the beautiful Pyranese boy. We will be sure to update you on Scout in the next few days.

On another happy note, I am pleased to say that Merlin the Falcon is ready to be picked up and set free. My husband and I will be heading out tomorrow and we are so anxious to be a part of setting him free where we found him. I hope to get some nice pictures of Merlin's return to freedom.

Last, but certainly not least - we are still shaking our heads wondering why our beautiful girl Dakota is still waiting for her forever family. She is a dog owners dream ... still very active, but loves to settle in by your side whenever you are ready. Here is an update from Dakota's foster mom.

Look at Dakota airborne while playing fetch, her most favourite past-time, other than snuggling up close with her people. You wouldn't be able to guess her age other than the few grey hairs (don't tell her but she's 7 years old, she just doesn't know it). The motto "you are as old as you feel" is exactly how Dakota is, she is the encompassment of being young at heart. This beautiful girl is ready to go anytime you are and is always up for an adventure running and playing around in the fields. Dakota is so loving and loyal, that she doesn't need to be on leash (in a safe area) and always come running when called. Her recall is phenomenal. Even though her recall is fantastic, she doesn't tend to stray anyways, she is always close by choice.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

While Dakota loves to play one-on-one, she also enjoys to play with other dogs. She can be a bit of a rough player, so another dog that is patient and stable enough to handle that sort of play is best for her. Dakota currently lives with all sizes of dogs, from small to extra large and she is fine with all of them. While Dakota is good with dogs, she is very fixated on cats and would be in her best interest to live in a dog only home.

Since Dakota is a rough player and can be exuberant, a home with older children or teenagers would be the best fit for all. Why this little girl hasn't been scooped up is beyond me. Dakota will make a great addition to any home.

If you know of anyone looking for a wonderful companion, please let them know about Dakota.

Cassie Update: We received a nice update and picture from Sassie Cassie's foster mom. As you can see, she is doing super well.

What to say about our little girl. So much has happened. We have been very casually looking at purchasing a new home (well, new to us) and after a very busy July, we finally laid eyes on what we hope will be our new home. It has a very are lot with lots of room for doggies to run and play. Cassie has been taking the changes all in stride. We've prepped our current home and listed it and have had a few showings. Luckily, Cassie loves to ride in the car! She can't even walk past our vehicles without peeking in the windows in the hopes of going for a ride.

She is really coming around as she is more and more vocal everyday. Not in a bad way though. She is just expressing herself more. We hear her half bark half howl almost daily when we play and she will even whine to let us know she needs to go potty. On our walks and is pacing less and less when we run into strangers and often follows their scent as they are walking away. She has yet to walk right up to anyone that she doesn't know but I suppose that will come with time. I will be calling the vet tomorrow to schedule her spay surgery.

Cassie LOVES playtime with Lil' Man. The two of them bounce around, barking, chasing and playing together. Just having a wee of a time. Here's a pic of Cassie letting Lil' Man know that she's no push over!

Cassie has also made friends with Pearl, one of our resident females. Pearl is approximately 13 years old and still has lots of spunk. We are keeping visits short and sweet for now but so far so good. Cassie is fantastic with other pets. She is afraid of those who act obnoxious or bark at her but she is appropriate in her response and just moves away. That's about it for now.

Thanks for the update ... Cassie is such a fabulous girl ... if you would like more information on Cassie email us at or fill out the adoption/foster form on the left.

Simi Update: Our sweetheart Simi is still patiently waiting for her forever family, but while she waits, she is really having a great time with her foster family ... 2 legged and 4 legged. Here are some pictures of our sweet Simi, who thoroughly enjoyed her summer!

Simi has relaxed quite a bit in the last few weeks and her personality is coming out more and more. Foster mom adores her and her silly little quirks. She is definitely Sharin's velcro dog! Simi is coming along great with her training classes. She is becoming more relaxed when strangers are around.

Congratulations Simi for passing your first obedience class! Here is our proud girl, Simi, with her trainer.
